Website backup & restore.
Two copies off your host, tested monthly.
A nightly, encrypted copy of your website's files and database — on our server in Milton Keynes and in EU cloud storage — restored on request when something goes wrong.
By Direct Debit, protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. No setup fee, no minimum term, no notice period.
Set up Direct DebitWhat you get
- Every night, automatically — website files and database, copied while you sleep.
- Two copies, away from your host — our server in Milton Keynes and Backblaze B2 cloud storage in the EU (Amsterdam).
- Encrypted before it leaves our server — AES-256, with a key that stays with Redway Studio and is never handed to the storage provider.
- A compromised server cannot quietly wipe the cloud copy — the key on our server can add files but not delete them, and earlier versions are kept for 90 days, so there is time to notice and restore.
- Tested every month — we restore a real file and your database from the cloud copy and email you what came back and when.
- Restores on request — a file, a folder, or the whole site to any night in the last 30 days, any week in the last 12, any month in the last 12. We aim for the same working day.
- We are alerted the same night if a backup fails, and the monthly restore test catches anything that slips through — a quiet failure is caught in hours, not months.
How it works
- You set up the Direct Debit below — the GoCardless form takes about two minutes.
- Armin emails you within one working day for access to the site (SFTP or SSH, and the database). If it turns out we cannot back up your site, we cancel the Direct Debit and refund anything already collected.
- Once we have access, the first backup runs within 48 hours. From then on it runs every night.
- Each month you get a short email: what we restored from the cloud copy, and when.
- Need something back? Email or call, say which file or which date, and it is restored.
What it covers
Any website we can reach over SFTP or SSH with database access — WordPress, and most sites on cPanel, Plesk or a VPS. If you are not sure, ask first and we will check.
What it protects you from
- A hosting company that goes down, gets bought, or loses your site.
- A hack or ransomware that encrypts or deletes everything on the server.
- A plugin or theme update that breaks the site, with no way back.
- Someone deleting the wrong thing — including us.
Your data
You stay the data controller for your website; Armin Shirazi trading as Redway Studio acts as a processor on your instructions, and Backblaze (EU data region, Amsterdam) is our only storage sub-processor. Copies are encrypted with a key held only by Redway Studio. Setting up the Direct Debit accepts the backup service terms and data processing agreement. When you cancel, your copies are removed from our server and from cloud storage within 30 days unless you ask for a final export first; earlier versions held in cloud storage expire within a further 90 days.
Questions
What exactly is backed up?
Your website's files and its database — pages, themes, plugins, uploads and the content stored in the database. Email is not included; that lives with your email provider.
Does it work with my website?
It works for any website we can reach over SFTP or SSH with database access, which covers WordPress and most sites on cPanel, Plesk or a VPS. Sites built on Wix, Squarespace or Shopify do not give that access, so this service does not cover them. Websites on our own care plan are already backed up.
Where is my data kept?
Copies are kept on our own server in Milton Keynes and in Backblaze B2 cloud storage in the European Union (Amsterdam). Everything is encrypted before it leaves our server, with a key that stays with Redway Studio and is never given to the storage provider.
How far back can I go?
Every nightly copy is kept for 30 days, then one a week for 12 weeks, then one a month for 12 months. You can restore a single file, a folder or the whole site to any of those points.
How do I know the backups actually work?
Once a month we restore a real file and your database from the cloud copy, check the database opens cleanly, and email you what came back and when. If a night's backup fails we are alerted the same night.
What happens if my site is hacked?
The cloud copy is written with a key that can add files but cannot delete them, and the storage keeps earlier versions for 90 days. So if your hosting is hacked — or even our own server — the copies from before the attack are still there to restore from for 90 days.
How do I cancel?
Email [email protected] or cancel the Direct Debit with your bank. There is no notice period and no fee; no further payments are taken and the month already paid runs to its end. Your copies are removed from our server and from cloud storage within 30 days unless you ask for a final export first.
I am already on the £39 care plan — do I need this?
No. Backups are already part of the care plan. This service is for websites Redway Studio does not host.
Start it
Set up the Direct Debit with GoCardless — name, email and bank details, about two minutes. GoCardless collects the first £8 a few working days after set-up, then £8 on the same date each month.
Payments are collected by GoCardless under the Direct Debit Guarantee and appear on your statement as REDWAY STUDIO. Setting up the Direct Debit accepts the service terms and data processing agreement. Prefer a monthly bank transfer or standing order? Email and we will set it up (the Direct Debit Guarantee does not apply to those).
